Cocktail Masterclass with Mini Tasting Flight hosted by Jake Burger

Joined us for a whirlwind journey through the distinctly gin flavoured history of the cocktail, learn the unlikely and somewhat shocking origin of the word, how it became the world's favourite type of mixed drink, the untold story of the Scandinavian bartenders that played a role its evolution, how and when gin became the cocktail bartenders best friend, and how to prepare these drinks for yourself, all whilst enjoying a tasting flight of historic gin cocktails,

The session runs for approximately ninety minutes, you will receive sample size servings of five different classic cocktails and afterwards will have the opportunity to buy a bottle of gin or akvavit from the shop at our brand home so you can mix your own cocktails at home and show off your new found knowledge and mixological skills.

Jake Burger

Jake Burger is a stalwart of the global drinks world, a notable personality with a career spanning five decades, he is an authority on drinking history and culture, an accomplished producer of award winning spirits, occasional author and columnist, and frequent presenter at international drinks summits and conferences.

Jak soon graduated to the bar and quickly established himself as one of the progenitors of the nascent cocktail renaissance, starting with his hospitality career in the washing up section of the kitchen as a teenager in the late 1980's.

In 1990's and the new millennium Jake was involved in the inception of some of the era defining bars in his hometown of Leeds, before moving to London as part of the team that opened West London institution The Portobello Star, a project which ultimately spawned a successful gin brand and a pioneering educational drinking experience.

Jake joined Almqvist Distillery in Autumn of 2025 bringing with him a wealth of knowledge, experience, and creativity, hoping to help Almqvist Distillery's product range, brand home, and experiences soar to new heights.

This session runs in english.

About Almqvist Destilleri

At our distillery, we meticulously distill and bottle high-quality spirits. Using our hand-operated 110 liter copper pot still, housed in the centuries-old Reijmyre Glassworks, we focus on creating liquids with balance and rich texture. Our aim is to showcase traditional Nordic flavours and highlight Swedish grain spirits. A key mission is to bring attention to the Aquavit category, offering a delightful insight into Swedish distillation and craftsmanship. We are proud to make Swedish Aquavit, which has a GI.

The EU geographical indications system protects the names of products that originate from specific regions and have specific qualities and enjoy a reputation linked to the production territory.

All our products are exclusivley made from swedish winter wheat grain spirit. Our pot still is run by our Master Distiller Bex Almqvist, and is hand operated. How the still is run is important to the end product; reflux, pressure, temprature and where the cuts are made are examples that reflect the end product.
